COMMUNITY DRIVEN RESEARCH DAY (CDRD) encourages collaboration between researchers, community-based organizations (CBOs), and community groups. This year's event theme was Stress and Wellness. Stress has been linked to health disparities by the World Health Organization (WHO) and others. We invited research questions focused on a variety of public health issues linked to stress, such as food insecurity, violence, poverty, and homophobia.
Through an interactive poster session, CBOs and community groups highlighted their questions to program participants who included area non profits, community groups, public sector partners, and researchers from The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, The University of Pennsylvania (Penn), Temple University, Drexel University, and other local academic institutions. CBOs, community groups, academic researchers, and students were able to meet and discuss potential, mutually-beneficial collaborations.

Funding Call for Proposals
To support research partnerships between CBOs who presented at CDRD and academic researchers, a call for proposals has been made available. Through a competitive pilot grant program, we will support interdisciplinary, community-based participatory research in health -- specifically stress and wellness.
We are committed to community-based participatory research (CBPR), which includes the basic tenet that both community partners and research partners are involved in all phases of research as well as the principle that through the research program process, community capacity and related opportunities are developed and sustained.
Thus, all pilot grants considered through this call for proposals must utilize a CBPR approach and propose a research endeavor that builds and maintains respectful, trusting and mutually beneficial relationships between academic and community partners. Most grants awarded will be in the range of $2,000 to $10,000.
We are pleased to announce that Penn, Temple, and Drexel will be providing support for grants. To be eligible, each proposal must have Co-Principal Investigators (PIs), with one Co-PI as a faculty member from the sponsoring institution (Penn, Temple, or Drexel) and the second Co-PI a community partner representative who presented a poster at CDRD.
